Solvothermal reactions of Zn(NO3)(2)center dot 6H(2)O, 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole as well as three different carboxylate ligands afforded three novel coordination polymers: [Zn-2 (azdc) (atz) (OH) (H2O)](n) (1), {[Zn-1.5 (btc)(0.5) (atz)]center dot 1.5H(2)O}(n) (2), and {[Zn-4 (nipa)(2) (atz)(3)(OH) (H2O)]center dot 2H(2)O}(n) (3) (H(2)azdc = 4,4′-azobenzoic acid, H(4)btc = 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic acid, 5-H(2)nipa = 5-nitroisophthalic acid, Hatz = 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole). Moreover, the three coordination polymers have been characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and powder X-ray diffraction techniques. Complex 1 reveals a 2D layer structure, which is further connected through pi-pi stacking interactions forming a 3D supramolecular network. Complex 2 exhibits a 3D porous framework with 1D open channels. Complex 3 shows a 3D pillared-layer framework. Notably, the thermal decomposition processes of 1-3 were investigated by simultaneous TG-DSC techniques. The TG curves reveal that complexes 1-3 possess pretty good thermostability up to 321 degrees C, 416 degrees C and 418 degrees C, respectively. The apparent activation energy E (E-1 = 194.975 kJ mol(-1), E-2 = 220.360 kJ mol(-1), E-3 = 223.600 kJ mol(-1)) and the pre exponential factor A of skeleton collapse for the complexes 1-3 were calculated by the integral Kissinger’s method and Ozawa-Doyle’s method. The structural stability could be illustrated from the point of thermal decomposition kinetics.

Eight energetic salts with a gem-dinitro group based on 1,2,4-oxadiazole were developed. All of the structures were confirmed by infrared (IR) spectroscopy, H-1 and C-13 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, and high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS), and single-crystal X-ray diffraction was used to determine the structures of the pivotal intermediate 3-(chlorodinitromethyl)-5-methyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole (3), the potassium salt (4) and the hydrazinium salt (7). All of them are insensitive to impact (>40 J) and have higher energy levels than trinitrotoluene (TNT).

Two energetic compounds, erythritol tetranitrocarbamate (ETNC) and pentaerythritol tetranitrocarbamate (PETNC), and their salts, were synthesized in three steps, characterized and compared. All synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, DSC and multinuclear NMR spectroscopy. Four compounds were further investigated by single crystal X-ray diffraction. All nonmetal salts show extremely low mechanical sensitivity (IS >= 30 J; FS >= 360 N). The heats of formation were calculated using Gaussian 09, and the detonation performances were calculated using EXPLO 5. Although these nonmetal salts are lower than the neutral compounds ETNC (D: 7960 m s(-1), P: 27.4 GPa) and PETNC (D: 7629 m s(-1), P: 24.3 GPa), they possess high detonation performances that are better than TNT. Erythritol-based and corresponding pentaerythritol-based energetic materials were compared in terms of their thermostability, detonation velocity and detonation pressure. They were also compared in their respective series. ETNC and PETNC and their salts have short preparation steps and are easy to isolate in high yields, and thus have promising potential applications as explosives.

A colorimetric and visual assay is described for the herbicide aminotriazole (ATZ). It is based on the etching of gold nanorods (AuNRs) by iodine which is formed on oxidation of iodide via H2O2. Longitudinal etching of the AuNRs occurs quickly and is accompanied by a color change from dark blue to red. In the absence of ATZ and the presence of active catalase (CAT), H2O2 is quickly decomposed into water, and the AuNRs will not be etched. In thepresence of ATZ, CAT is partially deactivated, and this affects the amount of available H2O2 and, consequently, of the iodine. Hence, the color is significantly changed. The color changes can be easily detected with bare eyes. The assay has a linear response in the 5 to 70 mu M concentration range, with a detection limit of 1.3 mu M and high selectivity for ATZ. It was applied to the determination of ATZ in water and food samples.

The widely expressed G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) are versatile signal transducer proteins that are attractive drug targets but structurally challenging to study. GPCRs undergo a number of conformational rearrangements when transitioning from the inactive to the active state but have so far been believed to adopt a fairly conserved inactive conformation. Using (FNMR)-F-19 spectroscopy and advanced molecular dynamics simulations we describe a novel inactive state of the adenosine 2A receptor which is stabilised by the aminotriazole antagonist Cmpd-1. We demonstrate that the ligand stabilises a unique conformation of helix V and present data on the putative binding mode of the compound involving contacts to the transmembrane bundle as well as the extracellular loop 2.

The current work reports the synthesis of two new triazolopyrimidine derivatives from 3-aminotriazole and ethyl 3-phenylglycidate. The two new compounds were characterized using IR spectra, UV-vis spectra, NMR (H-1 and C-13), thermal analyses (TGA and DTA) and finally the structure of one was confirmed by X-ray diffraction studies. Primary aromatic amines (PAAs), as a class of persistent and highly toxic organic pollutants, have been posing a great threat to human health and the environment. Therefore, the design and preparation of a highly sensitive and selective luminescent probe to detect PAAs among various amines are important but challenging. In this work, by introducing electron-deficient monomer 4,4 ‘-(benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole-4,7-diyl)dibenzaldehyde (BTDD) with an aggregation-caused quenching behavior into the 2D framework, fluorescent ultrathin covalent triazine framework (F-CTF) nanosheets were constructed. Compared with the aggregated BTDD monomer, the obtained F-CTF-3 nanosheet shows much higher fluorescence quantum yield due to the BTDD fragment being well dispersed in the 2D framework. The F-CTF-3 nanosheet exhibits high stability, high porosity, and high fluorescence performance and has a rich electron-deficient unit in the pore channel, making it an ideal platform for sensing electron-rich PAA molecules. In fact, the F-CTF-3 nanosheet shows high sensitivity and selectivity for PAA detection by fluorescence quenching, among various amines, covering some classic aliphatic amines, heterocyclic amines, secondary aromatic amines and tertiary aromatic amines. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first reported fluorescent sensor for selective sensing of PAAs among various amines. Moreover, F-CTF-3 exhibits unprecedented low detection limits of 11.7 and 1.47 nM toward phenylamine (PA) andp-phenylenediamine (PDA), respectively, surpassing all the reported fluorescent sensors. The combination of experimental analysis and density functional theory (DFT) calculations demonstrates that the unique PAA detection performance of F-CTF-3 can be attributed to the static quenching process, which is confirmed by the formation of a ground-state fluorescence-quenched complex on account of the hydrogen bonding interactions between F-CTF-3 and PAAs. This work not only provides a thiadiazole-based 2D fluorescent organic framework nanosheet, but also an excellent fluorescent sensor with unexpected sensitivity and selectivity for PAA detection.

Background: Presently, rise in the infectious diseases and subsequent development of drug resistance, is a global threat to human health. However, much efforts are being made by scientists, to develop novel antimicrobials, and also to improve the efficacy of available drugs, in order to combat the life-threatening infections. Objective: Synthesis and characterization of azole functional polymer systems for antimicrobial applications. Materials and Methods: Poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (PGMA), was produced by free radical polymerization of the monomer, glycidyl methacrylate (GMA). Different azole functional PGMAs were produced, through chemical modification with imidazole (Im), 1H-1,2,4-triazole (Tri) and 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole (ATri), to get PGMA-Imi, PGMA-Tri and PGMA-ATri, respectively. The structure was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermal properties were investigated by Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), and surface morphology was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Newly synthesized derivatives were further explored, for their antibacterial and anticandidal activities. Results: All the three synthesized and characterized derivatives, displayed a significant activity against the tested microorganisms. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal/fungicidal concentration (MBC/MFC), recorded against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), was 0.5 &1mg/ml for PGMA-Imi, followed by PGMA-ATri & PGMA-Tri, respectively, followed by E. coli with, 1 & 2 mg/ml, 4 & 8 mg/ml, 4& 8 mg/ml, respectively, whereas the maximum MIC & MFC was recorded against C. albicans i.e., 8 & 16 mg/ml, 4 & 8 mg/ml ,4 & 8 mg/ml for PGMA-ATri, PGMA-Tri, PGMA-Imi, respectively. Conclusion: In the present work, we report on the state-of-the-art, azole functional polymer systems for antimicrobial applications. These findings suggest that the synthesized azole functional polymer films have antimicrobial properties, which could be potential candidates for coating applications in the biomedical and wastewater treatment field.

Herein, we report a straightforward synthesis of 5-sulfonamidomethyl substituted 4,7-dihydroazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidines by a two-component condensation of aminoazoles andN,N-dialkyl(cinnamoyl)methanesulfonamides in DMF at reflux. The startingN,N-dialkyl-2-ketomethanesulfonamides can be obtained by either lithiation ofN,N-dialkylmethanesulfonamides and reaction with aldehydes followed by oxidation of the resulting alcohols or by Claisen condensation ofN,N-dialkylmethanesulfonamides with the corresponding esters. The chemical structures of all synthesized compounds are supported by(1)H and(13)C NMR-spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and elemental analysis.

Salt stress is an important environmental factor affecting the growth and production of agricultural crops and fruits worldwide, including apple (Males x domestica). In this study, we demonstrate that a salt-responsive MYB transcription factor (TF), designated as MdMYB63, promotes survival under salt stress. Overexpression of MdMYB63 in apple calli significantly enhanced salt tolerance. Screening of the AP2/ERF family of TFs identified MdERF106 as an interaction partner of MdMYB63. Further analyses showed that the MdMYB63-MdERF106 complex significantly promotes the expression of downstream MdSOS1, thereby improving the Na+ expulsion and salt tolerance of apple. These functional analyses of MdMYB63 have provided valuable insights into the regulatory network of salt tolerance, and lay a theoretical foundation for the cultivation of new salt-tolerant apple varieties.
