The aqueous was then extracted twice with EtOAc. The combined organic layers were dried over Na2S04, filtered, and concentrated to provide a dark oil. The oil was stirred overnight in EtOAc (450 mL) and the resulting precipitate was removed by filtration. The mother-liquors were concentrated to a brown solid (106.21 g, 75 wt% by quantitative HPLC, 79.7 g, 80%). 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6): 8.22 – 8.13 (bs, 2H), 7.84-7.80 (m, 1 H), 7.74 – 7.65 (m, 1 H), 7.50 – 7.41 (m, 1 H).
