N-chloroethylmorpholine hydrochloride (197 mg, 1.32 mmol), 3,5-dibromo-1H-1,2,4-triazole (250 mg, 1.1 mmol) and potassium carbonate (456 mg, 3.3mmol) were added to DMF (5 mL) in a 25 mL round bottom flask. The reaction was then stirred at 50 C under nitrogen. The solvent was removed in vacuo, water was added, and the product extracted with DCM (3 ×). The organic phase was dried over a phase separator and the solvent removed in vacuo. The product was purified by silica column chromatography eluting with 0-10% MeOH in DCM to yield [4-[2-(3,5-dibromo-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)ethyl]morpholine (374 mg, 1.1 mmol, 99% yield) ].
