Hexamethylenetetramine-functionalized magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles (Fe3O4@SiO2@Propyl-HMTA) catalyst was prepared and characterized by FT-IR, SEM, TEM, TGA, XRD and VSM. This nanomagnetic catalyst had several advantages such as easier separation, recycling from reaction media due to its heterogeneous nature, higher reactivity and catalytic power due to its enhanced surface area. Further, this catalyst was utilized for the synthesis of 4-aryl-NH-1,2,3-triazole derivs I [Ar = 4-ClC6H4, 2-O2NC6H4, 3-indolyl, etc.] by three-component reaction of aldehydes, nitromethane and sodium azide through Henry condensation and then in situ [3+2] cycloaddition reaction.
